Increase in the number of stay at home Dads

A new study conducted by the Pew Research Center shows that the number of stay-at-home dads who care for their children has quadrupled over the past 25 years.

So, what’s the reason for this trend?

Well, it has a lot to do with the social attitude change regarding women in the workforce. Women are no longer expected to put their careers on the hold in order to raise the family, and likewise, men are no longer seen as the breadwinner. Plus, younger women are now getting degrees resulting in better-paying jobs.

The recession has also played a major role as typical male-dominated blue-collar jobs such as construction and manufacturing suffered losses, whereas ‘pink-collar’ jobs such as healthcare, education and retail have made a stronger comeback.

However, just like stay-at-home mums, dads can also want to find work for some extra cash – so here are some ways to do just that.

1. Freelance

You will be at an advantage if you have existing skills and expertise in a field, and being able to freelance in this field is a great place to start if you’re looking for the flexibility and the opportunity to work from home.
A lot of companies will also outsource work to freelancers due to the cost-effectiveness of doing so.

2. Blogging

In order to create a successful blog for a living, and many do, you need to ensure that the content is engaging, well written and updated regularly. Try to focus on your target audience in order to maximize page views so you can join one of several affiliate marketers. You then add a link from your blog to a website that sells something, for example, if you were to affiliate with Amazon and you review a book, you can then link your review to Amazon and earn money per click from your site. The more clicks, the more money you make, along with a commission for any items sold.

3. Online business

Many people are now successfully earning a good living by starting an online business from home. A great way of doing this is by selling items on auction sites such as eBay. However, like all businesses, you will need to work out the costs, fees and not forgetting tax to make sure it’s actually worth your while.

4. Temporary work

Temporary work can be the perfect solution for stay-at-home dads, as not only does it give you a break from the house and the kids, but it can also allow you to do something a little different whilst giving you the all-important flexibility that’s needed.

At redwigwam, we have temporary roles that will work around you and your and family schedule. So, whether it’s just a spare hour each week or a couple of hours each day, we have the jobs to fit into your life.
