How to get a job easily
By: Claire, redwigwam
Are you looking for work? It can feel like a never-ending mission, with endless applications, rounds of interviews and then playing the waiting game.
Getting a new job involves a combination of preparation, strategy, and persistence.
And while we can’t do all this for you, we can pull together a list of some quick-fix-tips to make sure your job hunt goes smoothly, and to help you get a job quickly.
So, here’s our step-by-step guide to help you streamline your job search process and increase your chances of securing the role you really want quickly.
Identify your skills and interests
Firstly, start by writing a list of your skills, interests, and career goals. What do you really want to do? What are you good at? What do you NOT want to do?
Then, identify industries, roles, and companies which match your strengths and passions. And make a note of any skills gaps, so you can work out how to fill these!
When you have a clear understanding of what you're looking, you can use this to guide your job search and help you target relevant opportunities.
Update your CV and LinkedIn profile
It might seem obvious, but make sure your CV and LinkedIn profile are up to date and tailored to the types of jobs you're applying for.
Highlight your relevant skills, experiences, and achievements, and use keywords which match job descriptions in your field of interest. Employers often use LinkedIn to search for relevant candidates, so mark your profile as open to work.
And remember, most employers will look up applicants online, so have a quick Google of yourself to see what comes up, make sure your personal social media is appropriate – and maybe make it private if not!
Utilise online job boards and platforms
There is a wealth of online job boards and platforms out there (think redwigwam, Indeed, LinkedIn Jobs or Glassdoor) which you can use to search for job openings.
Use filters to narrow down your search based on location, industry, experience level, and job type. Redwigwam specialises in providing quick access to short-term roles and flexible work arrangements.
Network with professionals in the field
It’s not what you know, but who you know! So leverage your professional network to uncover hidden job opportunities and learn more about different companies and roles in your chosen industry.
If you’re looking to get into a new industry, look for local networking events or industry conferences which you can attend. It’s a great way to grow your network and connect with potential employers.
Apply for jobs strategically
You’ll have heard this before, but it is essential to customise your job applications for each position you apply for.
Tailor your CV and especially your cover letter to highlight your relevant skills and experiences and address the specific requirements of each job. Yes, it’s a little more time-consuming, but the effort really will pay off.
Apply for jobs which closely match your qualifications and interests to increase your chances of success.
Follow up on applications
If you haven’t heard back a couple of days after applying, politely follow up with the hiring manager or recruiter to express your interest and inquire about the status of your application.
Sending a polite and professional follow-up email or making a phone call can demonstrate your enthusiasm and commitment to the role – and also allows you to move on more quickly if it is a no!
Prepare for interviews
Interviews can come thick and fast – many companies will now offer a first interview over video call, so be prepared!
It’s a good idea to research the company, practice common interview questions, and prepare some thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer. Rehearse the tech you’ll be using before to avoid any glitches on the day. If possible, use a private space where you won’t be interrupted.
If you are then called to a second ‘in person’ interview, make sure you dress professionally, arrive on time, and showcase your skills and qualifications confidently during the interview – there are some tips on smashing your interview in this blog post!
Consider temporary or freelance work
If you're looking for immediate employment, it’s certainly worth considering temporary or freelance work opportunities.
These types of roles often have quicker hiring processes and can provide valuable experience to boost your CV while you continue your job search.

With the right amount of determination and perseverance, you'll increase your chances of finding a job easily.
